Project Bio

Gulfport School District — Gulfport, Mississippi
The design of this facility was a direct result of the client’s desire to provide a state-of-the-art facility that would include re-purposing several existing campus buildings in addition to new construction with an emphasis on campus security. The design evolved around a practical way to demolish outdated existing facilities, renovate existing buildings, and construct new buildings while keeping the campus operational during construction. New construction includes two significant classroom buildings, a field house, and a practice gym. A new STEM building incorporates interactive educational spaces and labs organized on two floors around common “learning lanes” that provide spaces for student interaction. Glass walls provide views into educational spaces and put the curriculum on display – a favorite of students is an overlook into the first-floor robotics lab. A second new wing houses academic instructional spaces and labs which feature operable walls for flexibility in instructional use. Placement of new buildings around a central enclosed courtyard provided both interactive outdoor space for students and greatly improved campus security by significantly reducing the number of entry points into the facility.
