Project Bio
Hancock County School District — Kiln, Mississippi
This performing arts center is designed to accommodate use by the public in this rural community in addition to the high school. The theater and supporting functions are organized around a main lobby sized to accommodate public receptions and events and is designed to double as an art gallery. The theater seats 850 and is designed as an intimate space designed a single level which is broken into orchestra and parterre sections. Back-of-house areas include dressing rooms, scene shop, and costume storage. Due to budget constraints and project timeline, the building incorporates a precast concrete structural wall system which informed the contemporary aesthetics of the exterior. Future expansion was considered by providing openings in the concrete panels to accommodate the future addition of classrooms and offices.
