Mississippi Department of Public Safety — Pearl, Mississippi
Prior to the design and implementation of the new DPS campus and facilities in Rankin County, the Department of Public Safety was housed in deteriorating and inadequate facilities spread across 8 separate locations in the metro Jackson area. The New Headquarters was designed in response to the pressing need of the Department of Public Safety for consolidation of functions, localization, interactivity between departments and greater efficiency of operations. The building design responds to this need by locating the numerous departments in a single building.
An essential aspect of the design is that all individual workspaces have access to windows and daylight to promote reduced absenteeism, better employee health and improved job performance. Staff and personnel are in a mix of hardwall offices and cubicles – all of which have access to windows – with support spaces located toward the building interior. The atrium and public spaces in the center of the building were purposely designed to encourage interaction between law enforcement personnel in different departments to share information and to foster a spirit of cohesiveness and common mission among law enforcement teams
