Mississippi Aquarium

Mississippi’s only aquarium is named the Mississippi Aquarium and will be an iconic landmark symbolizing the resilience of the people of the Mississippi Gulf Coast and the commitment of Gulfport’s City leaders to its continued growth and development.

Phase I Statistics
- Design team: PGAV Destinations of St. Louis with local firm of Eley Guild Hardy
- Covers 4.5 acres of nearly 10-acre site
- Over 70 species of animals planned
- 730,000 total gallons of water, both saltwater and freshwater
- Campus plan includes 4 gallery structures (entry / gulf community / theater / aviary) and 4 exterior exhibits (dolphin, otter, alligator, river fishes)
- Over 60,000 sf of space for animals and guests
- Total project cost is $65MM including pre-construction, construction, and startup costs
- The aquarium will make its own seawater on site
- All water within the exhibits will be recycled and reused
- Parking will be in the existing CTA parking deck - approx. 500 spaces
- Attendance of approx. 350,000 visitors annually is expected
- Operation funds will be generated by revenue from ticket sales, special events, rentals, etc.
- A bridge spanning Beach Boulevard will connect Jones Park to the Aquarium
