Project Bio

Eley Guild Hardy Architects — Jackson, Mississippi
Designed in 1923 by the noted firm of Mayre, Alger & Alger Architects of Atlanta, Georgia as home to the First National Bank of Mississippi, this landmark building had functioned as a bank until EGH Architects purchased it in 2008 as a home for their newly formed Jackson office. The monumental exterior maintains its original facades composed of a limestone colonnade of giant order ionic columns supporting an ornate limestone entablature and marks an important downtown corner. The ornate interior was sensitively preserved with the main banking hall being transformed into a design studio with the addition of moveable wall systems organized around a central spine that includes private office and conference space. Original bank features such as white marble check-writing stands were repurposed and celebrated. The safe deposit and cash vault, which retains its massive circular door, is now a conference room.
