Project Bio

The University of Mississippi — Oxford, Mississippi
The project involves total renovation of the existing structure and extensive addition of new space. The functional requirements of the program are balanced between utilization of the existing structure and the massing of the addition. The existing atrium is preserved and visually connected to new two-story dining spaces in the addition.

The main objective of the project was to improve The University of Mississippi (UM) Student Union’s facilities to better serve the needs of the campus community, through a comprehensive renovation of the existing structure and an expansion with new spaces, while maintaining a balance between the program’s functional requirements. The addition’s massing is stepped, and the top floor is recessed to minimize the visual impact, and a new brick colonnade blends the more public facades with campus materials. The existing atrium is preserved and connected to new two-story dining spaces in the addition, and the floor levels align with the existing structure.
