Harrison County Library System — Gulfport, Mississippi
The Harrison County Library headquarters was designed to replace its previous beachfront location which was severely damaged in Hurricane Katrina. Drawing upon its rural site and to recall the abundant exterior views in the previous facility, the new building was organized around a two-story atrium space overlooking an existing grove of mature camellia trees. The light-filled interior provides a tranquil space for library patrons. The exterior is clad in hand molded brick in response to the surrounding residential neighborhood.
